Each week we spend time getting to know some of our camp staff a little better. We interview a few people each week until we have interviewed everyone. This week we interviewed four fantastic girls !

Lorna Peters's favorite thing about camp is: "When I can help the campers, I love making their day and seeing them smile."
Hallie Zimmerman's favorite thing about camp is: "When the campers make you laugh and knowing you were a part of making their happiness."
Karley Niemeyer's favorite thing about camp is: "Seeing the campers succeed and Badger Ball each week."
Audrey Posten's favorite thing about camp is: "When I am able to help people get into camp and finding spots for them."

Behind the Scenes: Camp Staff Training 2012

Our camp staff had a full week of work before campers started arriving. Our staff attended seminars and training, did team skill building, and of course had fun as well. There was a variety of activities to make sure our staff was ready to go when campers arrived. Our camp staff has done a great job so far at camp and will continue to the whole summer. A BIG thanks to our staff for all of their hard work!

Badger Camp Week 1

Week 1 was a busy, but fun week at camp. All week the campers had the opportunity to go camping, fish, swim and simply enjoy themselves in the outdoors. We are excited for the rest of the summer at camp!

Road Trip Concert To Benefit Badger Camp is a Success!

Volunteers, local businesses and community members came together on Friday, June 1st at the BARn to help raise a campership at the Road Trip concert to support Wisconsin Badger Camp.

“We would like to thank everyone who volunteered and attended the Road Trip Concert to support Wisconsin Badger Camp,” Badger Camp Development Director Kayla Smith said. “We truly appreciate the BARn and their staff for hosting the event this year,” Smith said.

The party started at 8 p.m. and continued for the night. Attendees enjoyed Chicago’s Best pizza, and the live entertainment of Road Trip.

The proceeds from this benefit go toward providing Campership assistance to individuals from the tri-county area (Grant, Lafayette, and Iowa County) that wish to attend Badger Camp this summer. A Campership is a scholarship that provides the financial assistance necessary for individuals with developmental disabilities that have limited income to still be able to attend Badger Camp regardless of their financial situation.

“Events like the Road Trip Concert make it possible for individuals with developmental disabilities in Grant County and the surrounding counties here in Southwest Wisconsin to be able to attend Badger Camp regardless of their income,” Badger Camp Executive Director Brent Bowers said. “We cannot say thank you enough to the volunteers who put this event together for reaching out to their friends and neighbors here in the community.”

Wisconsin Badger Camp is an independent nonprofit organization located approximately 10 miles south of Prairie du Chien. Badger Camp provides quality outdoor recreational experiences to adults and children with developmental disabilities regardless of their financial situation, abilities, gender, age, or where they are from. This summer Badger Camp will host over 800 campers from 50 counties in Wisconsin, including Grant, Iowa, Crawford and Lafayette County as well as 4 other states.

The 2012 Wisconsin Badger Camp season is now in session. We invite you to come join the celebration on Sunday, July 15 as we will be having a program, refreshments, tours, and music for our campers and the general public. We welcome anyone interested in volunteer opportunities or for more information about Wisconsin Badger Camp, please call (608) 348-9689 or visit our website at www.badgercamp.org.

Cruising for Campers 2012

The 3rd Annual Poker Run “Cruising for Campers” was held on Saturday, June 2nd. Over 60 motorcyclists and riders cruised through Southwest Wisconsin as a means to raise funds and awareness for Wisconsin Badger Camp’s summer camp program that serves local individuals with developmental disabilities. Together with the support of the participants and tavern sponsors, the ride raised $1,000!

Stops along the 2nd Annual Cruising for Campers route included Red N Debs in Platteville, Jody’s Bar in Blue River, Lynch's Bar & Grill in Avoca, Dodger Bowl in Dodgeville, then ended at Rippers in Belmont. Riders were treated to dinner and live music from the band TKO at Rippers.

Thank you to all who participated!
