Platteville Knights of Columbus Donate to WBC

Wisconsin Badger Camp is proud to announce it is the recipient of an $847.60 donation from the Knights of Columbus Council #1386 Platteville. The hard work of the Platteville Knights of Columbus is greatly appreciated. This donation will provide financial assistance to local individuals with developmental disabilities that will attend Wisconsin Badger Camp this summer.

Located 10 miles south of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin Badger Camp is a non-profit organization that serves individuals with developmental disabilities by providing quality outdoor recreational experiences. Wisconsin Badger Camp accepts campers regardless of age, severity of a disability, or financial situation.  This summer over 800 individuals with developmental disabilities had the opportunity to experience swimming, hiking, camping, and making friends that last a lifetime at Wisconsin Badger Camp.

The Knights of Columbus truly embodies the spirit of volunteerism through the time they spend volunteering and funds they have donated to help improve the quality of Wisconsin Badger Camp’s facilities and programs.

“On behalf of our board of directors, staff, and most importantly our campers, we would like to thank the Platteville Knights of Columbus for their donation to Wisconsin Badger Camp,” Wisconsin Badger Camp Development/Communications Director, Kayla Smith said.  “Wisconsin Badger Camp is extremely proud of our relationship with the Knights of Columbus and are very appreciative of their efforts to help us fulfill our mission of serving individuals with developmental disabilities,” Smith said.

Miller Big Cup Golf Outing in Support of Wisconsin Badger Camp a success!

The 2012 Preferred Distributing Miller Big Cup Golf Outing for Wisconsin Badger Camp was a success, raising over $3,100! The golf outing was held on Saturday, June 30^th at the Prairie Du Chien Country Club. The Miller Lite Golf Outing proved to be a day of fun for everyone.  Golfing, prizes, great food were enjoyed by all who attended.

The money raised benefits individuals with developmental disabilities who attend Wisconsin Badger Camp. Wisconsin Badger Camp is an independent nonprofit organization located approximately 10 miles south of Prairie du Chien. Badger Camp will host over 800 campers this summer from over 50 counties in Wisconsin and five other states. Campers are welcomed to camp with any ability level, age, gender or financial situation. “On behalf of our board members, staff, and most importantly our campers, Badger Camp would like to thank Preferred Distributing for their devotion to our organization and this event,” Kayla Smith, Wisconsin Badger Camp Development Director said.

The General Lee comes to Badger Camp

Ryan Marshall of Lancaster brought his "General Lee" to Badger Camp this week. The General Lee is a orange Dodge Charger and is famous from the movie The Dukes of Hazard. Our campers got to go for rides in it, take pictures, and honk the horn. Special thanks for Ryan Marshal for bringing his car out for our campers!  

Wisconsin Badger Camp Receives Grant from the Grainger Foundation

Wisconsin Badger Camp is proud to announce it is the recipient for a $5,000 grant from the Grainger Foundation. The grant will financially support individuals with developmental disabilities through are Campership Program who want to attend Wisconsin Badger Camp.

By providing outdoor recreational experiences such as fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding, canoeing, and arts & crafts, Wisconsin Badger Camp brings a tradition of outdoor recreational experiences to individuals of any ability or age regardless of one’s financial situation.

Grainger has been part of the business community in the greater Chicago-land area for more than 80 years as the leading broad line supplier of maintenance, repair, and operating products. The Grainger Foundation, an independent, private foundation based in Lake Forest, Illinois, was established in 1949 by William W. Grainger, founder of W.W. Grainger, Inc. 

“Wisconsin Badger Camp has never turned a camper away due to their financial situation,” Brent Bowers, Executive Director of Wisconsin Badger Camp said. “Campers are able to request financial assistance through our Campership Program. We appreciate the support from the Grainger Foundation grant, which will help provide the funding for campers to attend camp that might not have the financial means to do so otherwise,” Bowers said.

Wisconsin Badger Camp is an independent nonprofit organization located approximately 10 miles south of Prairie du Chien and serves approximately 800 individuals with developmental disabilities each summer. Badger Camp relies on the community’s time, talent, and financial assistance to provide for its campers. Last night at Badger Camp our week 6 campers got to participate in our weekly Badger Ball event. The weather looked like it might spoil the fun, but the clouds passed and our campers and staff we able to have a fun time at Badger Ball.

Two-Week Camp Session

Wisconsin Badger Camp offers a two week camp experience. This is where our campers come on Sunday and leave the second Thursday after arriving. The two week camp session is in total 11 days long. Two-week allows our campers to have a longer camp session and it is also beneficial to some of our campers who travel long distances to come to camp.

Primitive Camp Goes Horseback Riding & Special Guest Sings at Badger Ball

Badger Camp is broken up into three kinds of experiences that campers choose to participate in, Main Camp, Primitive, or Trip & Travel. Primitive is our more challenging camping experience that has different themes and campers can participate in activities such as hiking, horseback riding, archery, or canoeing. 

This past week at camp our Primitive group spent time horseback riding. A local family farm, CR Quarter Horse owned by Rodney and Charlene Boom, was kind enough to bring horses to camp for our campers. They also spent time doing a dunk test for their canoeing trip that they are going to have this week.

We also had our weekly Badger Ball at camp Thursday. But this week we had a special guest sing for our staff and campers, our very own Emily Doan our Development Assistant!

Knights of Columbus Council #1840 Donates to Badger Camp

            Wisconsin Badger Camp is proud to announce it is the recipient of a $570.56 donation from the Knights of Columbus Council #1840 of Prairie Du Chien. This donation will provide financial assistance to local individuals with developmental disabilities that will attend Wisconsin Badger Camp this summer.

Badger Camp Grants

Wisconsin Badger Camp is proud to announce it is the recipient of a $2,000 grant from the Frank G. Andres Charitable Trust and a $9,000 grant from the Jack Deloss Charitable Trust. These grants will financially support individuals with developmental disabilities through are Campership Program who want to attend Wisconsin Badger Camp.

 “We are very appreciative of Jack Deloss Charitable Trust for helping us provide adults and children with developmental disabilities with outdoor recreational services,” Wisconsin Badger Camp Development Director, Kayla Smith said. “It costs over $800 to host a camper for one week at camp, but we realize many of the individuals we serve are on limited or restricted incomes. With the support of the Jack Deloss Charitable Trust individuals can come to camp regardless of what their financial situation is,” Smith said.

We are already into our 5th week of camp! Half way done with our summer already. This summer is going by so fast because we have been so busy up at camp each week. In the coming weeks we have more adults sessions and a children's week coming up as well. Badger Camp Water Carnival

How do we stay cool from the heat at Badger Camp? We have a water carnival! Our camp staff sets up a water carnival with all kinds of "cool" activities for our campers to participate it in to escape the heat. With the temperature as high as it was this week our campers loved the cooling off at the water carnival.

Teen Week

Week 3 at Badger Camp is Teen Week. This week is designated to our campers from ages 14-25. Teen Week was a great week at camp, our campers participated in Badger Olympics, Badger Ball, a water carnival and all kinds of recreational activities. The weather was hot last week but everyone managed to stay cool and have a great time!
