Jack Deloss Charitable Trust Supports Wisconsin Badger Camp

Jack Deloss Charitable Trust Supports Wisconsin Badger Camp

The Jack DeLoss Charitable Trust has been a supporter of Wisconsin Badger Camp for 13 years. This year we are proud to announce that they have selected Badger Camp as a recipient for a $9,000 grant. This grant will financially support individuals with developmental disabilities from Dane County through our campership program who attend Wisconsin Badger Camp.

This grant will help provide over 200 individuals from Dane County experience outdoor recreational activities such as fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding, canoeing, and arts & crafts. Wisconsin Badger Camp brings a tradition of outdoor recreational experiences to people of any ability or age regardless of one’s financial situation.

“We are very appreciative of the Jack DeLoss Charitable Trust for all of the years of support and helping individuals with developmental disabilities attend camp,” Wisconsin Badger Camp Development Director, Kayla Smith said. “It costs over $800 to host a camper for one week at camp, but we realize many of the individuals we serve are on limited or restricted incomes. With the support of the Jack Deloss Charitable Trust individuals can come to camp regardless of what their financial situation is,” Smith said.

Wisconsin Badger Camp is an independent nonprofit organization located approximately 10 miles south of Prairie du Chien and serves approximately 900 individuals with developmental disabilities each summer. Badger Camp relies on the community’s time, talent, and financial assistance to provide for its campers. If you or someone else you know would like more information on how to make a donation or for tour information please call Wisconsin Badger Camp at (608) 348-9689 or visit our website at: www.badgercamp.org.

Local Donation from Valley Fish and Cheese

Local Business Gives to Badger Camp

Wisconsin Badger Camp was given a gracious donation of catfish from Valley Fish and Cheese located on Prairie Street in Prairie Du Chien.  It is always great to see local business’ getting involved with Wisconsin Badger Camp.  It is greatly appreciated to receive such a nice donation.  It will be used to serve a nice meal to the staff.  We can not say 'Thank you' enough to all who have donated for our Summer 2013 season; without the generous donations none of what we do would be possible!

Week 5 of Camp in Full Swing

This week marked the start of the 2 week camp session for Wisconsin Badger Camp.

This week proved to be more fun than imaginable for staff and campers alike! Between the Badger Olympics and the Badger Ball it has been full of so many memories for all!

Wednesday evening was the Badger Olympics and this week theme was "All Around the World" so it had an Egyptian, Mummy Wrap relay, an obstacle course that had participants run around the world, knock down the Egyptian pyramid, & swim across the Nile River to the finish line, and there was the famous torch relay that had participants racing around the world!

Thursday evening's Badger Ball was quite the fun.  The evening started with hors d'oeuvres, followed by dinner, and then an evening of dancing!

We look forward to another week of fun for all of these campers during Week 6, as well!

Staff Interviews

Wisconsin Badger Camp Staff Weekly Interviews

Each week interviews are conducted to find out more about camp staff for this summer.  One of the questions that has been the most interesting to hear the answer to is, "How have you changed/grown or how do you hope to change/grow?"

“I want to become a better person,” said Sara Witek (pictured left) of how she hopes to grow as a person working at camp, “I want to be more understanding, more patient, and even more open to new things.”

Corrine Lachapelle (pictured to the right) says that the way she has grown as a person is, “I have already gotten a lot more patience and  more accepting of challenges.”

“Working here has taught me patience and  how to be even more caring,” said Ryan Hobbs (pictured left), “you have to be compassionate to work here.”

“I’ve learned to appreciate life more and loving everything about it,” is how Heather Miller (pictured to the right) says she has grown since working at camp.

“Working here has taught me to definitely not look at the outside of people, but to be aware of what’s on the inside; everyone is different, but in the same world,” said Priscilla Bort (pictured to the left).
