Badger Camp Receives Three New Grants

New Shower Chairs, More Camperships Thanks to the Eau Claire Community Foundation

     Wisconsin Badger Camp is happy to announce it is the recipient of a $2,400 grant from the Eau Claire Community Foundation. The grant will financially support individuals with developmental disabilities from Eau Claire that attend Badger Camp. Of the total $2,400 grant, $2,000 will go towards new shower chairs to help with personal care for campers while attending camp and the other $400 will go towards the Campership Program.

“This grant is supporting two different, but very important, programs for Badger Camp,” said Development Director, Kayla Leibfried.  “Their continued support of our mission is greatly appreciated.”

     The Eau Claire Community Foundation focuses on strengthening the community by offering donors opportunities to establish charitable legacies, by making grants, and by serving as a catalyst to address community needs.

     Because Badger Camp does not accept any state or federal funding, the Eau Claire Community Foundation, a longtime supporter of camp, is playing an important role in the overall experience of the campers who attend Badger Camp.

Darlington Area Community Fund, Longtime Supporter of Badger Camp

    Wisconsin Badger Camp is thrilled to announce it is the recipient of a $3,000 grant from the Darlington Area Community Fund. The grant will financially support individuals with developmental disabilities in Darlington, WI who attend Wisconsin Badger Camp.

     Established in 1999, the Darlington Area Community Fund is a permanent, unrestricted endowment created to serve the Darlington area. They have been a continuous supporter of Badger Camp.

     Because Badger Camp does not accept any state or federal funding, the Darlington Area Community Fund is playing a crucial role in the success of the Campership Program.

“We greatly appreciate the support from the Darlington Area Community Foundation and providing funding to our Darlington area campers,” said Development Director, Kayla Leibfried. “It’s always great to see a local organization in support of Badger Camp.”

WBC Receives Grant from Kaap Charitable Trust

     Wisconsin Badger Camp is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a $1,000 grant from Kaap Charitable Trust. This grant will financially support individuals with developmental disabilities to give them the opportunity to come to camp and participate in outdoor recreational experiences such as fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding, canoeing, and arts & crafts.

     Kaap Charitable Trust originally established in Wisconsin and supported the children of Brown County. This is the first time that Badger Camp has received a grant from Kaap Charitable Trust, now located downtown Chicago, Illinois.

     Because Badger Camp does not accept any state or federal funding, Kaap Charitable trust is playing an important role in the success of the Campership Program.

“We are really excited about our grant from the Kaap Charitable Trust in support of our Brown County Campers,” said Development Director, Kayla Leibfried. “This is the first time we’ve received from the Kaap Charitable Trust and it’s always awesome to gain new supporters of our mission.”

Meet Our New Summer Intern!

                                             All About Carly Willman

     My name is Carly Willman and I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville studying Media Studies with a Public Relations emphasis. Originally from Sterling, Illinois, I have a passion for writing, running, and the Chicago Blackhawks.

 I will be interning at Wisconsin Badger Camp for the summer of 2014, updating all of the social media sites, taking pictures of all of the wonderful camp experiences and interviewing the staff members who make it all happen. I believe I have the knowledge and background to influence Badger Camp in a positive way, all while enhancing my experiences and becoming a better-rounded individual.

Being from a small town in Illinois, I hadn’t heard about Wisconsin Badger Camp before attending college, but when I first discovered what it was, I instantly wanted to intern there. I believe being an intern at Badger Camp will help me choose which career path I will want to take in the future. I can’t express how excited I am to spend my summer with Badger Camp and all of the influential and passionate staff and campers! Being part of such an important and caring organization like Badger Camp is everything I was looking for in an internship and I am so grateful for the opportunity!

La Crosse Community Foundation Continuous Supporter of Badger Camp

     Wisconsin Badger Camp is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a $3,000 grant from the La Crosse Community Foundation. The grant will financially support 49 individuals with developmental disabilities from La Crosse County who attend Wisconsin Badger Camp.

     A continuing supporter of Badger Camp, the La Crosse Community Foundation is centered on enriching the lives of individuals in the greater La Crosse area by being a community resource and providing services to donors, nonprofits agencies and the community-at-large.

     Because Badger Camp does not accept any state or federal funding, the La Crosse Community Foundation is playing an important role in the success of the Campership Program. The generous contribution towards the 49 individuals with developmental disabilities from La Crosse County plays a vital role in the success of Badger Camp by giving them the opportunity to come to camp and participate in outdoor recreational activities regardless of their financial situation.

      “We truly appreciate the continued support from the La Crosse Community Foundation,” Development Director Kayla Leibfried said. “Our Campership Program relies on the generosity of foundations like the La Crosse Community Foundation,” Leibfried said.

Badger Camp Receives Grant from the Capital Times Kids Fund, Inc.

     Wisconsin Badger Camp is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a $4,300 grant from The Capital Times Kids Fund, Inc. This grant will financially support 30 youth with developmental disabilities from Dane County who attend Wisconsin Badger Camp.

     The Capital Times Kids Fund carefully evaluate grant requests from non-profit organizations, distributing those gifts to serve the needs of kids and their families in Dane County. This summer, there will be 230 total campers from Dane County, including the 30 youth.

     The Kids Fund’s generous contribution towards the 30 youth with developmental disabilities from Dane County plays a vital role in the success of Badger Camp by giving these children the opportunity to come to camp and participate in outdoor recreational activities regardless of their financial situation.

      “We greatly appreciate the continued support from The Capital Times Kids Fund,” Development Director, Kayla Leibfried said. “We would not be able to continue our Campership Program and financial assistance to our campers without the help of foundations like The Capital Times Kids Fund,” Leibfried said.

Another Great Spring Spruce-Up for Wisconsin Badger Camp

Another Successful Spring Spruce-Up

Wisconsin Badger Camp’s annual Spring Spruce-Up on May 10^th was a big success. With a beautiful day full of laughter and hard work many projects were completed during this year’s Spruce-Up.

Volunteers of all abilities, talents and ages helped with grounds maintenance, lawn and garden work, cleaning, and construction projects throughout Badger Camp’s 680 acres of land. 

“It is special to see how many community members are willing to donate their time and effort to benefit Wisconsin Badger Camp,” said Development/Communications Director Kayla Leibfried. “On behalf of Wisconsin Badger Camp Board of Directors, staff and more importantly our campers, I want to thank everyone who attended this year’s Spring Spruce-Up and their hard work is greatly appreciated,” said Leibfried.

Wisconsin Badger Camp's mission is to provide a positive natural environment where individuals with developmental disabilities can learn about their surroundings and realize their full potential. Through a group living experience, campers develop friendships and expand their social skills. Everyone, regardless of the severity of their disability are welcome at Badger Camp.

Badger Camp Receives Generous Donation from Alliant Energy Foundation

        Wisconsin Badger Camp is the proud recipient of a $1,500 grant from the Alliant Energy Foundation. The Alliant Energy Foundation has been a supporter of Badger Camp for many years. This grant will be put towards a campership program, making it possible for individuals with developmental disabilities from Dane County attend Wisconsin Badger Camp.

        By providing outdoor recreational experiences such as fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding, canoeing, and arts & crafts, Wisconsin Badger Camp brings a tradition of outdoor recreational experiences to people of any ability or age regardless of one’s financial situation.

    “We are very appreciative of the Alliant Energy Foundation for helping us provide adults and children with developmental disabilities with outdoor recreational services,” Wisconsin Badger Camp Development Director, Kayla Leibfried said. “It costs over $900 to host a camper for one week at camp, but we realize many of the individuals we serve are on limited or restricted incomes. With the support of the Alliant Energy Foundation, individuals can come to camp regardless of what their financial situation is.”

United Fund of Iowa County Supports Wisconsin Badger Camp

 

Wisconsin Badger Camp announces it is the recipient of a $3,000 grant from the United Fund of Iowa County. The grant will be used to provide financial assistance for individuals with developmental disabilities from Iowa County that will attend Wisconsin Badger Camp this summer.

Located 10 miles south of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin Badger Camp is a private, non-profit organization that serves individuals with developmental disabilities by providing quality and challenging outdoor recreational experiences. Wisconsin Badger Camp accepts campers regardless of age, severity of a disability, geographical location, or financial situation.  Wisconsin Badger Camp relies on the generosity of organizations like the United Fund of Iowa County, as Badger Camp does not receive any state or federal funding.

            The United Fund of Iowa County responded to the needs Wisconsin Badger Camp and will allow all of Badger Camp’s Iowa County campers the opportunity to come to a week of summer camp.  Because of the United Fund of Iowa County and their continuous support, campers will be able to experience a week-long stay at camp and participate in activities like camping, fishing, swimming, hiking, dancing and much more!
