Memories a must for Week 7 at WBC

     Although Week 7 has come and gone, the memories made will never fade.
     Throughout the week, campers participated in the usual Badger Camp activities: Badger Olympics, Badger Ball, canoeing, fishing, swimming, etc. They also enjoyed the new basketball court that is on it's way to being finished.
     With Week 8 approaching, it's a sure thing to say that this summer has gone fast, but every day spent at camp makes the fast but fun summer worth it.
     Week 8 begins Sunday, who's ready?!

     Wisconsin Badger Camp is pleased to announce that we are the proud owner of two new Automatic Electronic Defibrillators! We would like to thank the Lancaster Community Fund for their $1,300 grant that helped us purchase the two AEDs!

Two-week Session Twice the Fun

Throughout the Week 5 & 6 two-week session, campers and counselors created a special bond with each other after spending so much time together. From Badger Ball to the water carnival to horseback riding and canoeing, the last couple weeks have been ideal for creating everlasting memories.

As for an update, we have the basketball court that was donated up and the campers have already tested it out to be sure it's to their liking, just waiting on a few finishing touches! 

Also, thank you to the volunteers from the local YMCA Camp for their help with work projects and hanging out with our campers on Thursday! 

Week 7 is already upon us, and we can't believe it! Time flies when you're having fun!

New Glarus- Monticello Volunteer at Camp Again!

New Glarus-Monticello Football Team Volunteers at Wisconsin Badger Camp

Wisconsin Badger Camp is a great way to get involved and volunteer.  On July 14^th the New Glarus-Monticello football team came up to camp and offered many helping hands.  Many work projects where completed thanks to the 45 members of the New Glarus-Monticello football team.

To start the morning the team split up into groups and participated in our camp programs. These programs consisted of playing a pickup game of football, making tutus and different arts and craft activities. In the afternoon the football team divided and conquered work projects ranging from clearing trails, putting up a new barn fence and general cleaning of camps buildings.

“With the help of the football team we were able to get so many work projects done at camp,” said Development/Communication Director Kayla Leibfried. “The team worked hard all day and helped make a difference at camp and in the lives of our campers,” said Leibfried.

At the end of the day the entire team, freshmen through seniors, posed for a picture with their coaches and some of the campers.  In addition, some campers were given shirts from the New Glarus-Monticello football team.

“Words cannot express the gratitude felt towards the New Glarus-Monticello football team and coaches,” said Executive Director Brent Bowers. “ It is great to see so many young men who are such great leaders and willing to do new and different things, like coming up to camp to volunteer,” said Bowers.

First week of two-week session warm, wet, and wild!

     As we head into the second week of the Week 5 & 6 two-week session, we reflect on the first week and hope the second week will turn out to be just as enjoyable! 
     The water carnival was held on the Tuesday of the first week and was a huge success! It was a free-for-all with the water filled canoe, and campers and counselors filled buckets, pool toys, and anything else they could find with water from the canoe to get each other wet.
     While some campers engaged in the water carnival, others preferred to stay dry and participate in the dry activities the counselors had planned. Campers could paint water guns, make bubbles, or simply sit and watch all the activities going on. 
     On Sunday, we had also had an open house where tours were held for anybody who wanted to see what Badger Camp is all about!  
     The second half of two-week is underway!

WBC Receives Grant from the Patrick and Anna M. Cudahy Fund

     Wisconsin Badger Camp is pleased to announce it is the recipient of an $8,000 grant from the Patrick and Anna M. Cudahy Fund. The grant will financially support Camperships for individuals with developmental disabilities from Illinois who attend Wisconsin Badger Camp.

     Located in Chicago, Illinois and starting in 1921, the Patrick and Anna M. Cudahy Fund foundation has continued its philanthropic work on a large scale, both in funds available and in the continuation of numerous charitable and educational endeavors.

     Because Badger Camp does not accept any state or federal funding, the Patrick and Anna M. Cudahy Fund is playing an important role in the success of the Campership Program. The generous contribution towards the individuals with developmental disabilities from Illinois plays a vital role in the success of Badger Camp by giving them the opportunity to come to camp and participate in outdoor recreational activities regardless of their financial situation.

     “Thank you to the Patrick and Anna M. Cudahy Fund,” Development Director, Kayla Leibfried said. “This grant will benefit our camper who come from Illinois. With a major portion of our campers coming from Wisconsin it’s great to have organizations like the Patrick and Anna M. Cudahy Fund supporting our Illinois campers.”

     Wisconsin Badger Camp is an independent nonprofit organization located approximately 10 miles south of Prairie du Chien and serves approximately 900 individuals with developmental disabilities each summer. Badger Camp relies on the community’s time, talent, and financial assistance to provide for its campers. Teen Week an Adventure at WBC

     Week Three is not only a different atmosphere at Wisconsin Badger Camp, but it's a completely different feel. The camper's energy levels are at a high, while their fear and uneasiness are at a low. Why? Because Week Three is known as Teen Week at Badger Camp, a week specifically designed for campers between the ages of 13 and 21. 
     Although this week was different in terms of camper characteristics, the same memorable activities such as Badger Olympics, Badger Ball, and the talent show were still held just as they are every other week. With the same activities comes the same fun and enjoyable times that have been a constant throughout WBC, some things will never change!
