The Kiwanis Badger Crawl 5K Run/Walk to benefit Badger Camp
was held on April 30, at 8:30am at Moundview Park. It was a 5K course that took
over 40 runners and walkers through the park and onto the newly renovated
Roundtree Branch trail.
The event was sponsored by the Platteville Kiwanis Club, the
race directors were Nikki and Jamie Klein, who were greatly assisted by the
other members of the club.
The fundraising efforts came from two sources; local
organization sponsorship, and individual registrations. All the proceeds were
donated to Badger Camp.
The event recognized the top three female and top three male
finishers, they are;
Females: Diane Drefcinski (26min 14sec), Suzy Klein (27min
2sec), Beth Wruck (27min 12sec)
Males: William Bowden (24min 24sec), Grayson Ghezzer (26min
16sec), Michael Hicks (26min 44sec)
The race also had a team component, where teams competed to
see who could get the most participants. The UW Platteville Circle K Club won
the team competition with 8 participants, led by their club president Caitlin
Krause.
The organizations that sponsored the event, which we are
extremely grateful to, are;
A&W Restaurant, Tricor Insurance, Livingston State Bank,
Medical Associates, Southwest Health, Driftless Market, Wisconsin Bank and
Trust, and UW- Platteville Circle K.
The Kiwanis Club is extremely grateful to all the sponsors
for making this event possible, and for making it the success that it was. They
are especially thankful to A&W Restaurant for donating a significant amount
of funds that covered the entire cost of the event, and for providing their
restaurant for packet pick up the evening before the event, and for donating a
portion of their sales from participants.
The running of the event was a great success thanks to
members of the Platteville community volunteering their time to help out the
morning of the event, specifically members of the Platteville High School Key
Club, the UW- Platteville Circle K Club, and the Platteville Kiwanis Club.
