New Addition at Wisconsin Badger Camp!

Wisconsin Badger camp hired a new intern for the summer!  Anna Strand is from the Sheboygan, Wisconsin area.  She is a Senior at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.  Anna is currently majoring in Media Studies with an emphasis in Public Relations, a minor in Social Media, and a minor in Marketing Strategy and Visual Communication.

 Anna enjoys being outside and interacting with people when she is not reading.  “Wisconsin Badger camp is such a great cause and seeing how well known the camp is around Wisconsin drew me to it.” Strand says.  Anna will be our Public Relations intern for this summer.  This means that she will be putting out press releases, working on our social media, and taking photographs of our campers and our staff.

Along with working as an intern, Anna hopes to meet and get to know many campers and be able to spend immense amount of time at camp.  “This summer will be enjoyable, because I will be helping others and I will be working for a great organization.”  Anna stated.

WBC Receives Grant towards New Camper Lodge

 Wisconsin Badger Camp is a proud recipient of a $5,000 grant from the B & A Esther Greenheck Foundation. This grant will go toward Wisconsin Badger Camp’s new camper lodge Building Fund. This is the first time that Badger Camp has received a grant from the B & A Esther Greenheck Foundation, located in Wausau, WI.

 The maximum number of campers Badger Camp can take for a one week session is 100 campers. Wisconsin Badger Camp currently has three lodges for campers. This new camper lodge will help address the waiting list and build capacity. The new lodge would be used for boarding during camp and also during out off-season.

“We are very excited to receive this grant from the B & A Esther Greenheck Foundation towards our new lodge,” said Development Director, Kayla Leibfried. “It is wonderful our building fund and camp grow.”  

Wisconsin Badger Camp is an independent nonprofit organization located approximately 10 miles south of Prairie du Chien and serves approximately 900 individuals with developmental disabilities each summer. Badger Camp relies on the community’s time, talent, and financial assistance to provide for its campers.  United Way Blackhawk Region Supports Wisconsin Badger Camp

Wisconsin Badger Camp announces it is the recipient of a $3,120 grant from the United Way of Blackhawk Region. The grant will be used to provide financial assistance for individuals with developmental disabilities from Rock County that will attend Wisconsin Badger Camp this summer.

“The United Way of Blackhawk Region has played a vital role to Wisconsin Badger Camp for many years by helping Campers from Rock County attend camp in the summer,” said Development Director Kayla Leibfried. “We are truly grateful to have such a great relationship with the United Way of Blackhawk Region and appreciate everything they have done for Badger Camp,” said Leibfried.

Wisconsin Badger Camp accepts campers regardless of age, severity of a disability, geographical location, or financial situation.  Wisconsin Badger Camp relies on the generosity of organizations like the United Way of Blackhawk Region, as Badger Camp does not receive any state or federal funding.

            The United Way of Blackhawk Region responded to the needs Wisconsin Badger Camp and will allow all of Badger Camp’s Rock County campers the opportunity to come to a week of summer camp.  Because of the United Way of Blackhawk Region and their continuous support, campers will be able to experience a week-long stay at camp and participate in activities like camping, fishing, swimming, hiking, dancing and much more!

Marjorie L. Christiansen Foundation Donates to Badger Camp

Marjorie L. Christiansen Foundation Supports Wisconsin Badger Camp

Wisconsin Badger Camp is the proud recipient of a $3,000 grant from the Marjorie L. Christiansen Foundation.  This grant will be used to provide Camperships to campers Racine County that are on strict or limited incomes from. With the help of the Marjorie L. Christiansen Foundation, Wisconsin Badger Camp will be able to serve approximately 900 individuals this year regardless of the severity of their disability or ability to pay the requested camp fee.

 By providing outdoor recreational experiences such as fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding, canoeing, and arts & crafts, Wisconsin Badger Camp brings the tradition of outdoor recreational experiences to people of any ability or age regardless of one’s financial situation. 

 “It costs over $900 to host a camper for one week at camp, though we only request a fee of $700. The Marjorie L. Christiansen Foundation has provided us with a grant to help individuals come to camp regardless of their financial situation,” Wisconsin Badger Camp Development Director, Kayla Leibfried said. “The continued support of the Marjorie L. Christiansen has been instrumental in continuing our Campership Program and we are extremely grateful for their support,” Leibfried said.

West Bend Charitable Fund Supports Wisconsin Badger Camp.

     Wisconsin Badger Camp is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a $2,000 grant from the West Bend Charitable Fund. This grant will financially support individuals with developmental disabilities, from Dane County, to give them the opportunity to come to camp and participate in outdoor recreational experiences such as fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding, canoeing, and arts & crafts. Because Badger Camp does not accept any state or federal funding, the West Bend Charitable Trust is playing an important role in the success of the Campership Program.

    With the help of the West Bend Mutual Charitable Fund, 236 campers from Dane County will be able to enjoy outdoor recreational experiences such as fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding, canoeing, and arts & crafts. Wisconsin Badger Camp brings a tradition of outdoor recreational experience to people of any ability or age regardless of one’s financial situation.

     “We truly appreciate this grant from the West Bend Charitable Fund,” said Development Director, Kayla Leibfried. “We serve a large number of campers from Dane County so we appreciate the West Bend Charitable Trust’s support of those campers and of our mission.”  

WBC Receives Grant from Ann & Leo Stoll Jr. Charitable Trust

     Wisconsin Badger Camp is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a $1,000 grant from the Ann & Leo Stoll Jr Charitable Trust. This grant will go toward Wisconsin Badger Camp’s Campership Program for Grant County campers. The Campership Program financially supports individuals with developmental disabilities to give them the opportunity to come to camp and participate in outdoor recreational programming that WBC offers.  This is the first time that Badger Camp has received a grant from the Ann & Leo Stoll Jr Charitable Trust, Mound City Bank located in Platteville, WI.

 “We are very excited about our grant from the Ann & Leo Stoll Jr Charitable  Trust in support of our Grant County campers,” said Development Director, Kayla Leibfried. “This is the first time we’ve received from the Ann & Leo Stoll Jr Charitable  Trust and it’s always  great to gain new supporters of our mission.”  

Racine Community Foundation, Inc. Supports Wisconsin Badger Camp.

     Wisconsin Badger Camp is pleased to announce it is the recipient of a $5,000 grant from Racine Community Foundation. This grant will financially support individuals with developmental disabilities to give them the opportunity to come to camp and participate in outdoor recreational experiences such as fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding, canoeing, and arts & crafts. Because Badger Camp does not accept any state or federal funding, Kaap Charitable trust is playing an important role in the success of the Campership Program.

        For the Racine Community  Foundation, there is no greater purpose than to serve the needs of the citizens of Racine County. They remain steadfast to the vision of those individuals who established their organization in 1975, and carry on their mission.

     “We are extremely grateful for this grant from the Racine Community Foundation,” said Development Director, Kayla Leibfried. “We appreciate the Racine Community Foundation’s support of our mission and Racine County campers.”  

Grants Awarded by Crawford County Community Fund

The Crawford County Community Fund presented its 2014 grants on Tuesday, December 16, at the Crawford County Board meeting.  A reception, with the grant recipients, county board members, county staff, the Crawford County Community Fund Advisory Board, and other invited guests followed and included refreshments, locally grown and/or produced.

Sharon Murphy, chair of the Crawford County Community Fund advisory board presented the grants.  In her remarks Dr. Murphy noted, “We truly appreciate the continuing support of the Crawford County Board of Supervisors in helping us to build and to promote our work.  This is the 6^th year that the Crawford County Community Fund has awarded grants.  With today’s awards, organizations that serve our county have received a combined total of $18,665. These monies are available due to the establishment of our Fund in 2008 and through the generous support of our donors.  We are confident that these grants, along with the over $14,000 awarded for flood recovery, have had and will continue to have a positive impact on the economic health of our county.”

The 2014 grants include:

·         $1000 to the Crossing Rivers Health Foundation – in support of the new Crossing Rivers Health Medical Center;

·         $1015 to the Mississippi Valley Conservancy, Inc – in support of a collaborative migratory birding project with Ferryville Tourism;

·         $500 to Reality Check, c/o Wauzeka-Steuben Schools – in support of Reality Check, a financial literacy program;

·         $500 to Wisconsin Badger Camp – in support of camperships for Crawford County camp attendees;

·         $1000 to the Wisconsin History Foundation Inc – in support of the Villa Louis pond restoration project.
